Hamatan - Lines by Lykospira

A while back I had a dream in which I discovered a new animal. The animal resembled a cross between a hamster and an orangutan, so I decided to draw it. This is what I have come up with. I will color it, but it is so hard for me to find the time to do so. I figured I would just post the line art in the meantime.

Please forgive the claw on the hallux.

Medium: ink
Tags: creature fantasy critter orangutan hamster hamatan
Saimiri saimiri skull by Lykospira

Saimiri saimiri, is a New World Monkey commonly known as the squirrel monkey. They have relatively large brains for their smaller body size, which affects the shape of the skull and head. One of the most noticible feature of its skull is the presence of something called an interorbital fenestra, meaning it has a hole in the bony wall that separates its eyes. In life, the orbits are only separated by a thin membrane covering the fenestra. Its presence is thought to be due to the close approximation of the eyeballs to one another.

Medium: Pencil
Tags: squirrel monkey monkey skull bones bone cranium saimiri
Coendou prehensilis by Lykospira

Ever since I found out that arboreal porcupines exist, I have been enamoured with them. A few days ago, I did a sketch study of the critters and decided to play around with one of them to get this stylized image. Prehensile-tailed porcupines are just too cute.

Medium: Photoshop
Tags: prehensile porcupine
Pitt Stop by Lykospira

This is the first drawing of a character that I have done in a very long time. The image is meant to be like a photo taken during a pitt stop on a road trip. I believe I created her all the way back in highschool.

Medium: Colored Pencil
Tags: zero thylacine
Bone Pick by Lykospira

A bone pick is a creature composed almost entirely of mismatched and oddly sized osteological materials and perhaps a bit of magic. I imagine that they are constantly looking for suitable new bones to expand their bodies. This particular bone pick is wondering how he can best assimilate this beautiful new skull into his assemblage.

Medium: Pencil
Tags: bones
